, watching romney tell those untruths, i believe he had to do some of that because the only thing paul ryan was doing was complementing what romney was doing, which was lying. so i believe biden had to interrupt because there were times when things ryan was saying did not make any sense. the 47%, they cannot clarify the that this really has hurt a lot of people by what they have said and they cannot live up to that. then president obama gets in office the first day and the republicans say we will do everything we can to make sure you are one-term president. how can you get things done when on your first day they refuse to help him? it's not like he can come across the aisle. they have already dropped him. americans need to wake up and see that this is just a thing where the republicans will make sure they say or do whatever they can to make sure obama is not elected. he has done things for the republican side of america as well as the democratic side. host: we will leave it there and move on to michael in columbus, georgia, on our mitt romney line. caller: house is going -- how is it going?

? was there a time you didn't have a lot of money? is that because you have bad character? if i were the romney/ryan campaign i would probably try to trash that reporter too. but that wasn't all that happened here. >> if you take a look at the gun laws we have, i don't think president obama is proposing more gun laws. we have strong gun laws. >> that's news too. it's especially news in light of the fact that it the nra is currently running these ads in a bunch of swing states. it's a huge ad buy too. they say chipping away at your right, chipping away at your freedom. now they are attacking our second amendment rights. you can stop them right now. defend freedom. defeat obama. that's what the ads say. but then there's paul ryan, the republican vice presidential nominee saying president obama is not proposing any attack on gun rights. he's not proposing anymore gun laws. that's true. the only gun-related changes in law we have had from president obama have been expansions of gun rights. but the republicans are not supposed to admit that. not when the nra is running this scary ad camp

what he needs to do is tie paul ryan around mitt romney's neck like a mill stone. paul ryan's policies are deadly unpopular and he's basically been allowed to kind of get away with it and paper over what he believes and what mitt romney believes. but paul ryan is just a terrible deficit for the ticket. the other thing is it is a base election. when we get to this point when we're looking at likely voters, ours are less likely to turn out. they are the young, they are the disadvantaged, they are the new citizens who haven't made a habit of voting. if we see an electorate like in 2008, barack obama wins. if we saw the one from 2010, he loses. so we talk about the independent swing voters all the time but think this is coming back down to the base for both sides. >> i think the obama team has been brilliant on the basics throughout all of this. but one of the basics they can't get away from is the 47% video. i think that is who mitt romney is. and i don't think they can allow him to escape these comments. he said these comments behind closed doors to people he needed their support and mon

collection. which does not sound interesting as it is, but mitt romney picked paul ryan and the expectation among supporters would -- was that this would be a chance for him to outline a campaign with a whole set of policy decisions that would set him apart from the president, but in the past few weeks we have seen the campaign dynamics not changed that much. this is just one more issue on which the republicans are trying to be the president. host: is mitt romney going to focus more on what the president is doing wrong, or more on his own plan? caller: based on the release extroverts -- exurbs of the speech, it looks like they're trying to follow up on obama. there is not a huge gap there and the question for the president was from a couple of months ago, clearly the mitt romney campaign knows that there is more time to make some headway there. there is always the risk that by focusing on this before the vice presidential debate, even as both sides think that the economy is a top issue, you run into a risk of focusing on too many items as opposed to jobs and economic issues. host: there wil
